South Korea's Supreme Court has confirmed a suspended jail sentence for Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin... for bribery... in the massive influence-peddling scandal that led to the ouster of former President Park Geun-hye.<br />Shin was initially sentenced to two years and six months in prison in February 2018... for giving some six million U.S. dollars in bribes to a close aide of the former president... to win support for his duty-free business.<br />Shin's sentence will be suspended for four years.<br />The court's ruling was based on the assumption that Shin paid the bribes out of fear that his business could be affected negatively if he refused.<br />Following the decision,... Lotte Group released a statement saying that it will become a trustworthy company that contributes to the nation and society.<br />
