Mist forms over Northern Thailand as the country marks the first day of winter

Mist formed over mountains in northern Thailand Thursday morning (October 17) as residents began to buy coats for winter. <br /><br />Temperatures plunged to only 10C in the valleys around the Doi Inthanon mountain in Chiang Mai province on the official first day of winter, which announced by Phuwieng Prakhammintara, director-general of Thailand’s meteorological department to a winter tourism seminar on Monday (October 14 ). <br /><br />Locals were seen at nearby markets stocking up on woolly jumpers and coats as forecasters predicted an extra chilly winter. <br /><br />The country's Meteorological Department has forecast that temperatures in the north could plunge to just 6C.<br /><br />Phuwiang Prakhammin said that winter in Thailand this year will be colder and longer than last year.<br /><br />He expects the cool season to last for approximately 122 days until mid-February, with average lows of 20C to 21C nationwide throughout the entire season and temperatures as low as 15C in the capital Bangkok.
