Gun Battles Erupt in Mexico After <br />Son of 'El Chapo' Is Captured The rampage took place in parts of the <br />Sinaloa city of Culiacán. Sinaloa is the base of the Sinaloa drug <br />cartel, run by 'El Chapo' Guzmán prior <br />to his imprisonment in the U.S. The gunfire reportedly began when <br />a National Guard patrol was fired <br />upon by armed gunmen. Security forces attempted <br />to arrest Ovidio Guzmán López, son <br />of the notorious drug lord, but they <br />were met with heavy gunfire. The gunmen apparently went on a <br />rampage, setting vehicles and gas stations <br />on fire. Residents scrambled to take cover. Wanted in the U.S. on charges of drug-trafficking, <br />López — known as "El Ratón" — was released by <br />police due to the scale of violence. Alfonso Durazo, Mexico's security secretary, via NPR News Mexican officials say that <br />there were injuries, but no official <br />count has been made known to the public.
