In a unique tradition from one village in west India, young men were seen dancing and flagellating themselves with burning logs. <br /><br />In this tradition, from the village of Nirupan in Navsari, Gujarat, youths play and dance with burning coals in their hand, as well as eating and hitting themselves with fiery coals. <br /><br />The people of Nirupan with burning coals and fire just before harvest season, often while dancing to devotional songs. <br /><br />This tradition was celebrated on the night of October 20. According to one villager: "This is a old tradition and we pray to Goddess Malvi for better harvest."
