Most Uber Passengers
Don’t Tip Their Driver, Study Finds A new study conducted by the National Bureau
of Economic Research (NBER) has found that
only 16 percent of Uber rides are tipped. In its four weeks of data collection,
the NBER found that nearly two-thirds
of riders don’t tip at all, and only one
percent tip on every trip. The remaining percentage of people only tip
on an average of 25 percent of their trips. The study also found that male
riders are 23 percent more likely
to tip than female riders. In regards to drivers, females were nearly 12 percent
more likely to receive a tip than male drivers. According to the study’s author,
Uri Gneezy, the lack of tipping
may be due to the layout of
the ride-hailing app. Uri Gneezy, via The Verge
