Young wild elephant rescued from well in northeastern India

Forest officials in northeastern India used a digger on Saturday (October 26) to rescue a young elephant trapped in a well. <br /><br />Tea pickers in Jalpaiguri in West Bengal state discovered the 7-year-old animal at the bottom of the 15-foot water source and called the forest department. <br /><br />Officials arrived and worked for two hours with a digger to open the sides of the well so that the stricken elephant could crawl to safety. <br /><br />According to reports, the animal was due to be diverted away from the immediate area towards a nearby forest.
