Devotees at a Hindu temple in central India were amazed by a "spiritually-minded" stray dog, which joins them for prayers everyday.

The Goddess Narmada temple at Dindori in Madhya Pradesh holds special prayers twice a day at 8:00am and 8:30pm. As devotees troop in to take part in the prayers, "Honey", as the stray is called, climbs the steps of the temple to join them.

As the devotees begin to sing the hymns, Honey also joins them howling into a separate mike placed by the temple management, as seen here on October 1.

Batches of devotees come and go, but Honey sits before the idol till the prayer time is over. It leaves only after having the edible offering provided by the priest.

Temple priest Dinesh Gowtham said: “Honey has been coming for prayers, twice a day, for the past three years. The moment we ring the temple bells, he comes up and stays till the end.”

Devotees would initially chase away the dog, but slowly accepted it seeing how serious it was in joining them.

A devotee, Maya, said: “Honey even fasts during ‘Ekadashi’ (a Hindu a day of fast). If we offer food on those days, he doesn't even touch it.”
