S. Korean gov't to invest US$ 170 million in Alzheimer's research

The South Korean government has announced big new investments in Alzheimer's research over the next 9 years.<br />The health ministry announced today that it will be investing about 170 million U.S. dollars starting next year in early diagnosis, prevention and treatment techniques.<br />The research also aims to develop new fundamental treatments to supplement existing ones, which can only relieve or slow down symptoms.<br />The government had declared in 2017 that it will develop a nationwide system to support and manage Alzheimer's patients.<br />Last year there were about 750-thousand patients, a number expected to rise to some 3 million by 2060.<br />
