462 Prison Inmates <br />Released in Largest US <br />Prison Sentence Commutation.<br />The non-violent Oklahoma <br />inmates were released on Monday.<br />Now is the first day of the rest of your life ... We really want you to have a successful future, Kevin Stitt, OK Governor, via CNN.<br />The commutations come as an <br />effort to reduce prison overcrowding <br />in the state and to "move the needle <br />in criminal justice reform.".<br />75% of the released prisoners <br />are men with an average age <br />of close to 40 years old.<br />The prison sentences of the <br />inmates had been shortened <br />by an average of 1.34 years.<br />According to the OK Pardon <br />and Parole Board, the cost of <br />keeping the prisoners incarcerated <br />equates to close to $12 million.<br />OK Governor Stitt thanked the Department <br />of Corrections and the "many non-profits ... <br />working hard to connect our inmates with the <br />resources they need for a successful transition."
