Huge waterspout towers above moored boats on the coast of Italy

A large waterspout appeared in the city of Genoa on the coast of Italy on Thursday (November 7) morning.<br /><br />The natural weather phenomenon appeared at around 10am local time behind a marina where several boats and yachts were moored. The region is also called Genova.<br /><br />Locals were amazed by the waterspout and filmed it before it dispersed after a few minutes.<br /><br />Waterspouts, or funnel clouds, are intense columns of swirling tornado clouds that form over a body of water. <br /><br />They are most commonly found in subtropical areas and disappear shortly after they come into contact with land. <br /><br />Italy's humid Mediterranean climate combined with fierce thunderstorms can often give rise to waterspouts in coastal areas.
