세계 8대 농작물 '카사바'…충북에서 노지 재배 성공<br /><br />A woody shrub native to South America, Cassava was successfully cultivated on a field for the first time in South Korea.<br />Chungcheongbuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services planted Cassava in mid-May and after nearly 6 months, 5 kilograms of Cassava can be harvested every week.<br />If scaled up, 2 tons of Cassava can be produced per square kilometer.<br />Cassava is one of the world's 8 major crops according to the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization, and it is eaten by 800 million people in over 25 countries.<br />It can also be used as starch and bioethanol fuel. <br />
