This is the adorable moment a mother hippo gave birth in her enclosure's pool in Khon Kaen Zoo, northeastern Thailand on Tuesday (November 5) afternoon. <br /><br />The mother, Lek, was in labour under a minute before the baby emerged in the water and swam with her mother. <br /><br />Zookeepers prepared a celebratory meal featuring watermelon, sweetcorn, bananas and tomatoes for the adorable baby hippo and her mother.<br /><br />They named the baby Nam. <br /><br />Thanachon Kenasing, director of the Khon Kaen Zoo, said that it is a pleasure to have the newborn hippo join its collection of animals. <br /><br />He added: ''The mother is 21 and this is her second child. The father is 10 years old.<br /><br />''The baby hippopotamus is healthy and strong. Vets will watch her closely while she stays with her mother.<br /><br />''She will be a wonderful addition to the zoo and help us to learn more about the species.''
