Migos Wins Copyright Infringement<br />Lawsuit Over ‘Walk It Talk It’.<br />The legal battle over Migo’s 2018 song, “Walk It<br />Talk It,” has finally concluded, with the case<br />being dismissed in favor of the rap trio. .<br />The lawsuit began in October of 2018, when M.O.S. claimed<br />Migos ripped off his 2007 record, ‘Walk It Like I Talk It.”.<br />However, Judge Analisa Torres ruled that the<br />phrase “walk it like I talk it” is a common phrase,<br />meaning it isn’t susceptible to copyright protection. .<br />“Because songwriters must be free to borrow sayings and expressions <br />from popular culture, the Second Circuit and courts in this district have <br />found that short and commonplace phrases are not protectable…”<br />Judge Analisa Torres, via ‘Complex’.<br />According to Torres, the “walk it like I talk it” lyrics<br />are the “only similarity” between the two works,<br />and are “not original” to M.O.S.<br />“The only similarity between the two works at issue, the lyrics<br />‘walk it like I talk it’, is not original to the author and is,<br />therefore, not protected by the copyright laws.”<br />Judge Analisa Torres, via ‘Complex’
