Running Can Reduce Your
Risk of Early Death, Study Says.
A new study published in the ‘British Journal
of Sports Medicine’ has found a link between
running and living a longer, healthier life.
The study, which compiled data from 14
previous studies, found that runners have
a 27 percent lower risk of early death.
This includes a lower risk of cardiovascular disease,
cancer, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
Furthermore, researchers found that the benefits
of running even applied to those who only
run once a week or at speeds below six mph. .
"This finding may be motivating for those who cannot invest a
lot of time in exercise, but it should definitely not discourage
those who already engage in higher amounts of running."
Željko Pedišić, Study Co-Author, to ‘Runner’s World’.
While marathoners don’t need to change, Pedišić
thinks those who are more sedentary would benefit
from adding a 45-minute jog to their weekly routine.
