Intense protests continue on the one-year anniversary of the police-linked death of left-wing activist Camilo Catrillanca, also known as "Lonko Mapuche" (Chief of Mapuche communities in Spanish) which was commemorated on Thursday in Santiago, Chile, (November 14). <br /><br />Camilo Marcelo Catrillanca Marín was a Mapuche farmer and left-wing activist of Ercilla in Chile who was killed by the Chilean police force. <br /><br />The incident led to protests against police violence and occurred in the broader context of the ongoing conflict over Mapuche civil rights.<br /><br />At least 20 people have died and about 1,000 have been injured in the protests that started over a hike of subway prices on October 25.
