'Joker' Sequel in Development, <br />Joaquin Phoenix Likely to Return.<br />The Warner Bros. film recently <br />passed $1 billion worldwide.<br />Besides smashing many box office records, <br />'Joker' won the Golden Lion at this year's<br />Venice International Film Festival.<br />According to 'The Hollywood Reporter,' director Todd Phillips is expected to <br />helm the followup. .<br />Besides Phoenix and Phillips, 'Joker' screenwriter Scott Silver will return <br />to write the sequel's script.<br />'THR' adds that Phillips has also struck <br />a deal with Warner Bros. to make <br />another DC origin movie.<br />Phoenix himself has earned <br />critical acclaim for his portrayal <br />of the iconic Batman villain.<br />He is considered to be one of the favorites to win best actor at the <br />2020 Academy Awards in February
