Tourists were given free "hammer massages" at a Buddhist temple in Bangkok, Thailand.

The bizarre treatment sees therapists in traditional silk clothes whack people's backs with wooden hammer and chisel type tools.

They believe that the ancient treatment helps to unlock trapped nerves and release the tension and knots from muscles.

One visitor, George from London, who is seen in the video said he would ''definitely recommend the treatment''.

He added: ''I feel much better afterwards. I didn't come on holiday expecting to be hit with a hammer but it really does get rid of the knots.''

The free massage treatments were part of an event promoting traditional medicine therapies at the well-known Wat Po temple in the capital Bangkok on November 3.
