This Day in History: <br />Millions Tune in to <br />Find out Who Shot JR.<br />November 21, 1980.<br />350 million people worldwide <br />watched the season premiere <br />of the hit primetime soap opera 'Dallas.'<br />.<br />Played by T.V. star Larry <br />Hagman, J.R. Ewing was a <br />greedy oil baron who had been <br />shot in the previous season's cliffhanger. .<br />Due to a Screen Actor's Guild <br />strike, audiences had to wait for <br />eight months to find out which of J.R.'s <br />many enemies actually pulled the trigger.<br />During that time, the catch <br />phrase, "Who shot J.R.?," captured <br />headlines and was turned into T-shirts.<br />The season premiere <br />revealed that J.R. was shot <br />by a jilted mistress. 76% of all U.S. <br />televisions were tuned in for the episode.<br />'Dallas' ran for 12 seasons. <br />It remains in worldwide syndication
