World Anti-Doping Agency <br />Recommends 4-Year Global <br />Sports Ban for Russia.<br />The recommendation from the <br />World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) <br />follows an investigation in which Russian<br />database irregularities were discovered.<br />If approved, the ban would mean <br />that Russian athletes would be <br />barred from the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.<br />It would be the second <br />straight summer Olympic <br />Games in which only cleared Russian <br />athletes would be allowed to compete.<br />In addition, Russian teams <br />would not be allowed to compete <br />in global events such as soccer's World Cup.<br />Russia would also not be<br />permitted to host a myriad <br />of international competitions. .<br />In 2015, it was discovered <br />that Russia had coordinated a <br />highly sophisticated doping scheme.<br />The scheme was directed <br />by Russia's head of anti-<br />doping.
