A dog that is hard of hearing has to be woken up by its sense of smell when the owners arrive at their Orlando home.

Footage shows 14-year-old labrador Snowball being woken up by its owner after their hand is placed in front of its nose.

The scent is welcomed with an abundance of tail wags but Snowball still isn't convinced to get out of bed.

The filmer commented online: "She gets startled when she wakes up and we’re all there so we gently let her know we are home by lightly waking her up."

"When she started going deaf about two years ago it was always a worrying moment when she wouldn’t get up when we got home (she used to jump up and happily greet us).

"After about a couple weeks of this, we started to realize she was going deaf and adopted this system of letting her know we are home!" They later said.

The footage was captured on November 25.
