Exam Results Reveal US Students <br />Are Still Behind in Several Areas.<br />The results of the <br />Program for International Student <br />Assessment were published Tuesday.<br />Administered to 15-year-olds <br />in 79 countries, the test measures <br />academic performance in a range of areas.<br />The results reveal that <br />U.S. students continue to <br />fall behind students in Europe and <br />East Asia in math, science and reading.<br />It also found an increasing disparity <br />among U.S. students between <br />those with a high performance <br />and those who perform poorly.<br />An associate commissioner of <br />the National Center for Education <br />Statistics referred to the results as "telling.".<br />Others in academia cautioned <br />that "these test scores are not <br />a pure measure of students’ <br />ability, knowledge and learning.”.<br />The U.S. ranked 8th in reading, <br />11th in science and 30th in mathematics
