Former NFL Players Charged in <br />$3 Million Health Benefits Scheme.<br />Among those named in<br /> fraud charges by a federal <br />grand jury is Clinton Portis, <br />a former Pro Bowl running back.<br />Ten former NFL players allegedly committed a brazen, multi-million dollar fraud on a health care plan meant to help their former teammates and other retired players pay legitimate, out-of-pocket medical expenses, Brian Benczkowski, Assistant Attorney General, via CNN.<br />The scheme allegedly took place <br />rom June 2017 through Dec. 2018.<br />The players allegedly filed <br />hefty false health care claims in <br />order to receive reimbursements <br />for expensive health care equipment.<br />The equipment was then <br />allegedly never purchased.<br />Portis — who played for both the <br />Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos — <br />was a well-known player, earning more <br />than $40 million during his career.<br />More than
