This is the moment a brave passerby saved a woman from drowning in southern India last week.

The woman slipped into the pond in Raichur in Karnataka state on December 13.

Unable to swim, she thrashed about to get back to the dry land but managed to move into the middle of the water body.

A passerby, who saw that the woman was drowning, jumped into the water and dragged her to safety.

A police official said the incident occurred near the Race Bachpan school.

“A huge pit, which had been dug up to build a multi-story building, had filled up due to heavy rain creating an artificial pond,” said the officer.

The builder has now set up a barricade to ensure the safety of pedestrians.
