Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service demonstrate the danger of adding water to a chip pan fire with their chip pan demo unit that is used at open days and community events.<br /><br />Their advice with chip pans:<br /><br /><br />· Temperature controlled deep fat fryers are much safer – so are oven chips and takeaways!<br /><br />· Never fill a pan more than one third full of oil.<br /><br />· Never throw water on an oil fire – close the door on it, get out, stay out and call 999.<br /><br />· Keep your pan and hob clean.
