London Mayor Sadiq Khan has described knife crime as one of the biggest things to keep him up at night.

Speaking to the Fabian Society's new year conference in London as he prepares to fight for re-election in May, he said: "It is tragic. There is nothing that keeps me up at night more than knife crime.

"Literally a stone's throw from my house somebody was stabbed to death, so it is personal to me and also as the father of two teenage children."

However Mr Khan says he is "optimistic" that violent crime could be cut, adding: "All of us have a role to play in dealing with violent crime. It can affect - but for the grace of God - all of us." Report by Alibhaiz. Like us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/itn and follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/itn
