Drowning baby deer rescued from pond in northeast India and released back into the forest

A spotted baby deer was rescued from drowning in a local pond by a forest team with the help of villagers in north-east India.<br /><br />The lost fawn was found in Nichraul forest range in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, on January 18, when some villagers heard its distressed cries coming from an overgrown pond. <br /><br />The villagers informed the forest department, who dispatched a three member team, one of whom swam out to rescue it while tied with a harness rope. <br /><br />Video shows the baby deer calling in distress and shivering from cold and exhaustion while it was taken to a shelter to be cared for. It was later released the following day back into the forest, having fully recovered. <br /><br />According to local forest ranger Jagannath Prasad, "Due to the cold, the baby deer was shivering, so first we kept him near a bonfire and then in our vehicle to keep him warm with the heating."<br /><br />"By evening on the same day after examining his condition we left him in forest area."
