38 Percent of the World to Experience
Civil Unrest in 2020, Study Says In 2019, nearly a quarter of the
world’s countries experienced
a surge in civil unrest. A recent study published by Verisk Maplecroft has
predicted that those surges will continue in 2020. According to their research, 75 of the
world’s countries will experience violence
and break-out demonstrations in 2020. That’s nearly 40 percent of the
195 countries in the world. Their analysis is based on both predicted rises
in unrest as well as the predicted risk posed
by a country's security forces against protesters. Study Author,
via ‘Daily Mail’ Countries such as Ukraine, Guinea Bissau
and Tajikistan are forecasted to experience
the biggest rises in unrest in 2020. However, researchers are more concerned
about the civil unrest in larger countries, such
as Russia, Saudi Arabia and China. These countries displayed high risk of backlash by
security forces over the course of the next six months. Verisk Maplecroft also predicted that Hong Kong and
Chile will not find peace for at least the next two years,
as they were deemed the “riskiest locations” in 2019.
