Rival mountain tribes race against each other in handmade wooden go-karts in their annual '"Grand Prix" festival.<br /><br />The Hmong people of Phayao, northern Thailand, converged on the winding downhill circuit on Sunday (January 19) afternoon.<br /><br />Womenfolk danced in traditional costumes while men climbed aboard wooden race karts and sped down the 820ft high mountain past cheering crowds.<br /><br />Six different clans from the tribes competed against each other in the event organised by provincial authorities to celebrate their heritage.<br /><br />The colourful event has become a popular tourist attraction for those living in the surrounding areas.
