Charles Portis, the legendary Arkansas author known for the classic Western novel “True Grit” died on Monday.<br />According to Reuters, Portis was 86 years old and had been battling a long illness.<br />He wrote five novels, numerous magazine articles, short stories, and one stage play.<br />Portis’ death was confirmed by his brother, who said he had been in hospice care for two years.<br />Portis's brother also confirmed he had lived in a care facility for Alzheimer’s patients before that.
