Longtime MSNBC cable news anchor Chris Matthews abruptly announced his retirement on Monday.<br />The news came after Matthews made controversial remarks to women and remarks about Bernie Sanders.<br />In comments, Matthews appeared to compare the success of Sanders to the Nazi invasion of Europe.<br />In a separate incident, a female journalist last week alleged that Matthews had made inappropriate remarks to her in 2016.<br />According to Reuters, Matthews issued an on-air apology last week.
