A tame elephant in south India became enraged and started ripping up trees and lashing out at nearby people. <br /><br />The elephant, named Oladikara Kalidasan, was visiting the city of Thrissur, Karnataka, on March 6, when it flew into a destructive rage. <br /><br />Footage from the scene shows its handlers and the elephant squad attempting to calm and restrain it using ropes. <br /><br />Reportedly no one was injured despite the elephant's outbursts. <br /><br />The use of tame elephants in India is considered highly controversial, as the means of taming and controlling them has often drawn criticism for its perceived cruelty.
