This is the bizarre moment residents who broke a COVID-19 curfew were forced to do press-ups as a punishment.<br /><br />The resident was caught riding on motorcycles after the 10 pm lockdown in a village in Chonburi, eastern Thailand, on Monday evening (April 6).<br /><br />In the capital Bangkok, violators face fines of 40,000GBP and prison for up to two years.<br /><br />However, village chief Pirat Withi has been dolling out the quaint punishment making law-breakers to push-ups and star jumps at the roadside.<br /><br />Together with security volunteers, officials set up a checkpoint on the main road to prevent residents from going out of their houses at the nighttime curfew.<br /><br />Footage shows residents are asked to do push-ups and jumping before they are provided facial masks by the team.<br /><br />The creative town hall boss said that he wanted people to stay inside their homes during the coronavirus lockdown and not punish them to strictly.<br /><br />Pirate said: "It would be great if all of the residents stay inside during the curfew because it helps lower the pandemic infection. <br /><br />"I did not want to punish them in aggressive ways, so I asked them to do some light exercise instead."<br /><br />People who pass through the checkpoint have to do a temperature check and wash their hands with a sanitiser before entering the village.
