COVID-19 has taken a significant toll on front-line healthcare workers.<br />According to the CDC, as of April 10, more than 9,000 first responders had been infected by the virus.<br />The agency noted that its numbers likely underestimate the actual total of cases due to variances in state reporting.<br />In states with more complete reporting, more than 10% of confirmed cases involved healthcare workers.<br />UPI reports the CDC found that 90% of affected health workers did not require hospitalization.<br />Of those who did, 5% required treatment in intensive care units, and 27 died as a result of their illness.
