COVID-19 is the disease caused by the new coronavirus. It's posed a unique challenge, given it has neither an effective vaccine nor treatment against it.<br />Now, UPI reports some influenza strains may trigger the same over-active immune system responses as COVID-19.<br />What's more, a new analysis suggests that same overactive response may be determined by how the body metabolizes sugar.<br />If true, the findings add to the similarities between the two highly contagious and sometimes life-threatening viruses.<br />Both are highly contagious and share many of the same basic symptoms, including cough, fever, and shortness of breath.<br />Those with underlying health conditions, including diabetes, are at higher risk for becoming seriously ill or dying from COVID-19.
