4 Household Cleaners
That Effectively
Destroy COVID-19 As the COVID-19 pandemic stretches on,
many people may find themselves running
low on standard cleaning products. Thankfully there are four cleaning solutions that
work just as well against COVID-19 and you
probably already have them in your house. 1. Isopropyl alcohol, the main ingredient
in hand sanitizers, is extremely effective
against COVID-19 on hard surfaces as long
as it contains at least 70 percent alcohol. According to organic chemist Richard Sachleben,
it is best to first clean the surface with water
and detergent, apply the isopropyl alcohol and
let it sit for at least 30 seconds. 2. According to the CDC, three percent hydrogen
peroxide can likely kill COVID-19 easily,
as it has been proven to deactivate rhinovirus
in less than eight minutes. The best way to use hydrogen peroxide is to
transfer it into a spray bottle, spray the desired
surfaces and allow it to sit for at least one minute. 3. The CDC also recommends using bleach
but only when it's been diluted with 1 quart
of water per 4 teaspoons of bleach. Sachleben recommends cleaning the surface
with water and detergent, drying it completely,
applying the bleach and then letting it sit for
at least 10 minutes before removal. 4. Finally, the tried-and-true method of
scrubbing with soap and water can effectively
break down COVID-19’s protective envelope. Scrub surfaces with a damp, soapy towel to ensure
thorough disinfection and when you’re finished,
simply let the rag soak in a bowl of soapy water.
