Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospitalized
With Gallstone Infection On May 5, the U.S. Supreme Court
released a statement confirming
Ginsburg had been hospitalized. The 87-year-old Supreme Court Justice reportedly
had to undergo nonsurgical treatment for
an infection caused by a gallstone. Her benign gallbladder condition, acute cholecystitis,
was detected on Monday following the U.S. Supreme
Court’s first-ever oral argument via conference call. Ginsburg reportedly went to Sibley
Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C.,
where tests confirmed her condition. They found that a gallstone had
migrated to her cystic duct, causing a
blockage and resulting in infection. Ginsburg is now “resting comfortably”
at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore
where she is expected to remain
for another day or two. She still plans to take part in the Supreme
Court’s Wednesday telephone session
remotely from the hospital.
