Engineered models of the human brain infected with the herpes virus develop Alzheimer's characteristics.<br />According to UPI, the new research analysis was published Wednesday in the journal Science Advances.<br />Researchers used a 3D human-tissue model of the brain to investigate the link between herpes and Alzheimer's disease.<br />They found a possible causal relationship between sporadic Alzheimer's disease and Herpes Simplex Virus-1.<br />There are two types of herpes simplex virus; HSV-1 and HSV-2.<br />Both viruses are referred to as "herpes," but HSV-1 causes sores around the mouth, while HSV-2 causes sores around the genitals.
