Driver injured after tropical storm pulls electricity lines onto cars in Thailand

This was the aftermath of a tropical storm that battered northern Thailand on Sunday (May 10).<br /><br />Dozens of utility poles were blow down onto a busy road, with some of the structures and the black power lines landing on top of cars in Chiang Rai province. <br /><br />Five vehicles were damaged. One driver suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital by paramedics who arrived on the scene. <br /><br />The Provincial Electricity Authority said it had urgently sent staff to fix the utility poles to restore power.<br /><br />They said in a statement: "We needed to take actions quickly and put the fallen poles back up to return electricity to residents.''<br /><br />Tropical storms have been sweeping Thailand for the last few weeks as the country enters its scorching summer season with temperatures reaching 42C.<br /><br />The strong winds and heavy rain, which are forecast to continue throughout May, causes havoc with the country's ageing infrastructure.
