World's Second-Oldest Airline Files <br />for Bankruptcy Due to COVID-19 According to a statement released on <br />its website on Sunday, Colombian <br />carrier Avianca filed for bankruptcy. The move was due to the <br />"unforeseeable impact of <br />the COVID-19 pandemic." Avianca CEO <br />Anko van der Werff The airline employs 21,000 people <br />throughout Latin America. According to Avianca's website, nearly 90% <br />of the countries in which the airline operates are <br />under total or partial travel restrictions. The airline was <br />founded in 1919.
