Kind locals set up community pantries to help people struggling during Covid-19 pandemic in Thailand

Sharing booths called "community pantries" have been set up by good Samaritans in Thailand to help their neighbours who are affected by the pandemic.<br /><br />Footage from Monday (May 11) shows people in need stop by community pantries in Chiang Mai, northearn Thailand for free supplies of food.<br /><br />The community cupboards allow residents to take what they need while generous locals can also add something to replenish the supplies.<br /><br />The idea has spread as more booths have emerged across the country, which today reached zero new cases for the first time since March.<br /><br />Thailand has enforced strict measures to combat the pandemic including the closing down of some businesses, banning of passenger flights, curfews, travel bans and alcohol prohibition.<br /><br />The restrictions have lead to a downturn in the economy, with many locals struggling to get by during the tough times.
