Elephants fitted with tracking collars to reduce human-wildlife conflict in southern India

Footage shows an elephant being fixed with a radio collar to track its movement in the south Indian state of Karnataka.<br /><br />The fitting took place in Virajpet of Kodagu district on May 7.<br /><br />Forest officials will be able to track the real-time movement and location of elephant herds in Kodagu.<br /><br />According to local media, the GPS-enabled collars will potentially reduce human-elephant conflict, after damage caused by elephant attacks was being reported.
