S. Korean high school seniors resume classes on Wednesday

고3, 오늘 등교…80일 만에 교문 열려<br /><br />High school seniors are finally going back to school this Wednesday.<br />But schools are taking strong measures to prevent COVID-19 as when other countries like France and Singapore repoened their schools, they saw a surge in new cases.<br />Let's hear more from our Jang Tae-hyun about how South Korea is reopening its classrooms. Eighty days after they were meant to start the spring semester, high school seniors finally returned to their classrooms this Wednesday.<br />They were greeted by their teachers, some of whom they have never met in person.<br />Wearing a face mask is mandatory, and a thermal imaging camera at the entrance will check that students' temperatures are below 37-point-five degrees Celsius.<br />High school seniors are starting classes first because they have to prepare for the college entrance exam.<br />"I'm excited to be here at school and meet friends, but I'm a little worried about catching up with my studies."<br />"The college entrance exam has been delayed and the result will depend on how much we studied."<br />Students back in school are happy to meet their friends again, but some are worried about the college entrance exam.<br />Some 450-thousand seniors will be heading to classrooms nationwide today, and the reopening of schools for the remaining grades will take place in stages through June 8th.<br />During class, students and teachers must wear face masks and use hand sanitizer.<br />At the cafeteria, dividers have been installed to prevent contact between students.<br />Also, unlike before, when students had classes long into the evening, school will now end in the early afternoon.<br />Even when going home, students must keep their distance from each other.<br />When anyone in school is confirmed to have coronavirus, the school will be shut and students will take online classes until further notice.<br />Jang Tae-hyun, Arirang News<br />
