President Moon vows efforts to protect industrial ecosystem, prepare for digital era

문 대통령, 기간산업 대표 간담회…"산업생태계 지키는데 총력"<br /><br />President Moon Jae-in sat down with business leaders from the country's nine key industries today to discuss ways to overcome the economic crisis sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic.<br />He pledged to quickly roll out the "Korean New Deal" so that the nation can emerge from the crisis as a leader in the era of digital economy.<br />Kim Min-ji reports.<br />President Moon Jae-in has stressed the need to protect jobs and overcome the COVID-19 crisis,.... vowing to swiftly push ahead with a so-called "Korean New Deal" and prepare for a digital age.<br />Moon met on Thursday with the CEOs of 17 companies from nine hard-hit industries, including aviation and shipbuilding... as well as representatives from the country's business lobby groups.<br />All efforts will be directed toward economic revitalization, protecting jobs and expanding the employment safety net. The digital era, which has been sped up due to the COVID-19 pandemic, demands more aggressive and swift changes.<br />President Moon said the government has already drawn up a support package worth roughly 200 billion U.S. dollars about 13 percent of the country's GDP to overcome the crisis.<br />More help is on its way, he said, as the government prepares a third supplementary budget.<br />Moon also vowed to help foster the human resources that will be required in new industries such as AI and future cars.<br />The president also called for cooperation not only between the government and businesses,... but also between large and small companies, as well as between management and labor.<br />It is important to protect the industrial ecosystem with an extraordinary resolve to protect jobs, our industries and revive the economy.<br />President Moon said he was confident that South Korea will overcome the industrial crisis... and that through concerted efforts between firms, the government and the people,... it will become a global leader in the era of the digital economy.<br />Kim Min-ji, Arirang News.<br />
