Heavy rain causes flash floods in Taiwan closing schools and offices

Heavy rain caused flash floods on roads in Taiwan today (May 22) forcing schools and offices to be closed. <br /><br />The downpours battered the country overnight and throughout the morning. The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) issued torrential rain advisories for 20 out of 22 cities.<br /><br />Footage from the Qixian 2nd Rd in Kaohsiung City shows drivers and pedestrians wading through the deluge. A drenched food delivery rider had to wade through the floods.<br /><br />Meteorologist Daniel Wu forecast atmospheric instability, thunderstorm cells, lightning, strong winds, sudden heavy downpours, and "disastrous rainfall''.<br /><br />He said: ''The increase of southwesterly winds will further exacerbate these factors, bringing heavy rain to torrential rainfall across Taiwan.''
