According to UPI, chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine has no clinical benefit for people with COVID-19.<br />A study published in The Lancet on Friday says that the drugs might actually cause serious heart-related side effects.<br />The study of 15,000 patients found increased rate of heart-related side effects, when taking either drug to treat COVID-19.<br />Data found that people in the study taking the drugs to treat the virus were twice as likely to die than those in the control group, which received standard care. <br />Dr. Mandeep R. Mehra, co-author of the study and executive director of the Brigham and Women's Hospital Center for Advanced Heart Disease in Boston said, "This is the first large-scale study to find statistically robust evidence that treatment with chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine does not benefit patients with COVID-19." <br />Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are used to treat malaria<br />Both drugs have been touted by President Donald Trump, and others like Elon Musk, as a potential COVID-19 treatment.
