Protests have spread to Phoenix, Arizona after George Floyd's death rocked the US this week.

Footage from May 28 shows how anger has swept the nation and people have taken to the streets of downtown Phoenix.

The Black Lives Matter protest was met with a response from the police who were equipped with full riot gear.

Filmer, Jess M, told Newsflare: "It was frightening being at the protests. I have been on a strict lockdown with the virus happening but it was important to come out for this.

"The people were protesting, not rioting.

"I have not only followed this case but so many others that have preceded it here in the states.

"It isn’t ok what is happening and I think we have to stand up and say so.

"I was close to the police line on the street I was on.

"I could see their faces very clearly, it was very tense, it was scary but I think it is necessary.

"As for the response of the police department, I don’t know much about what they used on the crowd.

"I can say this was my first protest, there were loud shots and blasts of light and people got sprayed or gassed a few blocks down.

"To hear the warnings before the shots and watch the police lines move us back was surreal for me.

"I don’t what else to say really, I came home and kissed my kids and was happy to be home with them."
