Nightclubs, bars and singing rooms in S. Korea required to use QR codes to log visitors starting this month

이젠 클럽-노래방 갈때 QR코드 찍어야…교회-영화관도 자율 추진<br /><br />Starting this month, visitors to nightclubs, bars, singing rooms and other high-risk facilities in South Korea will be required to scan a QR code,...instead of writing down their personal information on a paper.<br />The new digital entry log aims to enhance accuracy of the information,... so that the government can better trace visitors and contain the spread of COVID-19.<br />Lee Kyung-eun explains what a QR code is and how the system works.<br />(stand-up) ed: devin<br />"A QR code, or quick-response code, looks kind of like a standard barcode, but its complicated matrix of black and white squares... gives it a lot more storage capacity.<br />From now on, this will be the way South Korea keeps track of people visiting places where there's a higher risk of infection."<br />Visitors will download a QR provider app like Naver.<br />Once they fill out their personal details, an instant QR code is generated.<br />There, your name, phone number, and the time you enter the place are automatically recorded.<br />The venue will scan the code to send the data for internet storage.<br />Due to privacy concerns, the information will be divided between the QR provider and a public institution, and will only be recombined for contact tracing during outbreaks.<br />All data will be deleted after four weeks.<br />This electronic entry log is currently undergoing a one-week trial in 19 selected facilities in the capital area.<br />But it will be adopted nationwide starting from June 10th.<br />And from then, it will become mandatory for places with a high risk of infection, including bars, nightclubs, singing rooms, and fitness classes like Zumba and spinning sessions.<br />Other venues like churches and movie theaters will also be recommended to use the QR codes.<br />The QR code-based entry logs first emerged as a tool to better track visitors and contain cluster infections,.. after some visitors to virus-hit clubs in Itaewon had written their information inaccurately.<br />Lee Kyung-eun, Arirang News.<br />
