Hundreds of cars queue to donate food as Minneapolis grocery stores destroyed in riots

These were the heartwarming scenes of community spirit as hundreds of people donated thousands of bags of food in the wake of the Minneapolis riots on May 31.<br /><br />Footage shows a large queue of vehicles who were all waiting to donate food.<br /><br />The initiative was organised by Sandford Middle School in south Minneapolis.<br /><br />The filmer, Matthew Kennedy, said online: "Hundreds of cars lined up to donate food at a collection site here in South Minneapolis. <br /><br />"My neighborhood lost about 80% of our grocers to say nothing of the shuttered food shelves and convenience stores."<br /><br />Kennedy later said: "This was a community effort between a few different groups at Sanford Middle school. <br /><br />"We were actually overwhelmed here today, but there are other sites across the twin cities taking donations."<br /><br />Protests erupted across the US with the epicentre being Minneapolis after George Floyd was killed as a result of a police officer kneeling on his neck while handcuffed.
