Mayor Eric Garcetti <br />Announces Budget Cuts to LAPD Garcetti announced he would be scrapping plans to increase the Los Angeles Police Department’s budget in a daily news briefing on Wednesday. The LAPD was set to receive an <br />increase from $1.189 billion to <br />$1.86 billion for 2020-2021. Mayor Eric Garcetti, <br />via news briefing Garcetti announced that in addition to <br />blocking the budget increase, he plans to <br />cut $250 million within the department. The mayor added that he plans to reallocate <br />the funding towards education, health, jobs <br />and the city’s black communities.
