Virginia Governor Ralph Northam responded to widespread protests decrying racism.<br />This is after the death of George Floyd, a black man in police custody in Minneapolis.<br />He ordered on Thursday the removal of a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee.<br />The status of Lee resided in the state’s capital city of Richmond.<br />He said the statue should be detached from its pedestal “as soon as possible”.
